Mitchell Veterinary Hospital is now offering Stem Cell Therapy and PRP treatment for your beloved pets. Stem cells simply explained are your animal’s own repair cells. They have the ability to develop into different types of cells in the body during early life and growth. They serve as a sort of self repair system, dividing essentially without limit to replenish other cells. When a stem cell divides it has the potential to remain the same cell type or become part of a cell with a specialized function, such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell, or a brain cell. Adult stem cells are highly concentrated in the fat tissue. There are 50 to 1,000 times more stems cells in the fat than the bone marrow. The procedure to extract fat from the patient is much quicker and less invasive than a spay.

The Process

Your pet’s therapy begins with a consultation with Dr. Mitchell to determine the therapy effectiveness on your pet. A series of bloodwork is done in the hospital, along with simple X-Rays to view the irritated/problem sight. The pet is then prepared for the fat removal from the abdominal area and the process begins. Your pet’s therapy can normally be completed in the same day.

Atopic Dermatitis Before and After

Sadie (Cockapoo, 4 1/2 yrs old, spayed). Sadie was diagnosed with Atopy; which is a hereditary disorder marked by the tendency to develop immediate allergic reactions to substances such as pollen, food, dander, and insect venom and manifested by hay fever, asthma, or similar allergic conditions.
Sadie presented a 90% improvement from pre-treatment and continued to improve throughout the evaluation period. All antibiotics were stopped 10 days after the intravenous treatment of stem cells.
